10/10/24 - Wildlands, Desert Biologist Field Position

 Wildlands is looking to hire a full-time field biologist with desert field experience to help manage and monitor approximately 50,000-acres of preserved desert tortoise habitat throughout the Mojave and Colorado deserts.  We are seeking an extremely independent, self-motivated biologist with a strong work ethic and excellent writing and communication skills. The candidate should have experience conducting field surveys, identifying desert flora and fauna, familiar with desert tortoise habitat, desert vegetation habitat types, and non-native vegetation. Job duties will also include fence and sign repair, and trash removal.


Applicants should have experience working in adverse weather conditions. Field work is year-round including summer months where temperatures often exceed 110˚ Fahrenheit. A moderate amount of travel will be required during the survey months to maintain other preserve areas, as needed.


MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:

  • Familiar with desert tortoise survey field methods and habitat.
  • General knowledge and identification of desert flora and fauna.
  • Capable of working in isolated desert wilderness areas in adverse weather conditions.
  • Physically able to walk more than 20 miles and lift 50 pounds.
  • Ability to write technical documents.
  • Basic computer skill knowledge (i.e., Word, Excel, and Teams).
  • Valid California driver’s license and clean driving record.
  • Experience in the operation of 4-wheel drive vehicles and all-terrain vehicles.


PREFERRED:

  • Bachelor’s or Associate degree in wildlife, biology, or related fields.
  • Experience with remote digital data collection systems.
  • Basic mechanical skills.
  • Experience with or knowledge of Mohave ground squirrel camera trapping.
  • Familiar with State and federally listed species
  • Familiar with western burrowing owl survey methods.
  • Familiar with flat-tailed horned lizards.

2/8/24 - ECORP, Mid-Level Biologist

 ECORP is searching for a qualified Biologist to assist Project Managers with complex, multi-disciplinary projects in a dynamic, collaborative environment. Key components include managing individual project tasks and providing direction to support staff; completing permit applications and regulatory documents; assisting clients with compliance of regulatory permits and project implementation; attending client meetings; interacting with agency staff; and conducting/managing field surveys as needed. RESPONSIBILITIES:

  4. Experience with wetland delineations and/or other local flora and fauna field surveys.
  5. Knowledge of California biological habitats, species, and general conservation biology/ecology.
  6. USFWS/CDFW permits and Memoranda of Understanding a plus.
  7. Strong writing skills, effective communication, and ability to collaborate with a diversity of staff.

ECORP is seeking a senior regulatory permitting specialist with direct experience preparing permit processing documentation for the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, California Department of Fish and Wildlife and Regional Water Quality Control Boards. The position could be based out of any of our Southern California offices (Redlands, Santa Ana, or San Diego). The level of responsibility and performance for this position is that of someone with at least 8 years of relevant experience in the environmental consulting industry, and project/task management experience. Responsibilities in this position will include:

  • conducting or overseeing the completion of jurisdictional delineations of aquatic resources in project areas
  • building and maintaining relationships with clients while serving as the primary project point of contact for the client as well as agency staff
  • providing project strategy, developing optimal permitting pathways, overseeing preparation of permit applications/regulatory documents, and providing overall environmental compliance support
  • negotiating and coordinating with regulatory agency personnel
  • preparing and reviewing biological resource technical documents, including aquatic resources delineation reports and mitigation plans
  • preparing and managing environmental documentation and regulatory permit applications for a wide variety of local infrastructure and public and private development projects
  • interacting with and maintaining productive working relationships with clients on mid-large size projects (budgeting, billing, scheduling, invoicing)
  • preparing scopes of work, budgets, and project proposals, and participating in proposal interviews
  • actively participating in planning/environmental/natural resource/industry organizations
  • demonstrating confidence in decision-making and being recognized by clients and peers as having expertise in related technical areas
  • mentoring junior staff to expand their understanding of project management/delivery and identifying opportunities for their professional development


Position requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree in biological resources, soil science, botany, ecology, environmental science or related field
  • 8+ years of experience conducting wetland delineations, preparing regulatory permit applications in compliance with the Clean Water Act Sections 401 and 404 and the California Fish and Game Code, and negotiating/coordinating with resource agencies
  • Demonstrated abilities to work with regulatory processes and agency staff.   • Ability to conduct strenuous field work in inclement weather or on steep terrain
  • Possession of a valid driver’s license


Our base full-time annual salary range is $66,560-$139,360.  Starting salary is determined by relevant experience, education, certifications/permits, geographic location, internal equity and market conditions.
